Brief Bio: Maria received B.Sc. (Summa Cum Laude) and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering from University of Ottawa in 2004 and 2006 respectively. In 2006-2008 she worked as a research scientist, specializing in wireless network security, at Defense R&D Canada and at Telcordia Technologies (currently Ericsson). Since 2008 Maria has been a Ph.D. Candidate in Electrical Engineering at Columbia University. Her current research is focused on networking ultra low power energy harvesting devices.

Maria is a recipient of Columbia University Presidential Fellowship, Canadian Graduate Scholar (CGS) NSERC Fellowships, and 2012 Google Anita Borg USA Fellowship. Recent News and News Highlights

5/10/2013: I was awarded a Columbia University Electrical Engineering Department Jury Award for outstanding achievement in the areas of system communication / signal processing, the highest award given by the Department to a Ph.D. student. [ Award info ]

4/24/2013: I successfully defended my Ph.D. dissertation titled "Energy Harvesting Networked Nodes: Measurements, Algorithms, and Prototyping".

3/20/2013: A high-quality recording of a talk I recently gave at Microsoft Research is available online. In this talk I introduced the EnHANTs project and talked about my contributions to the project and to the overall space of networking ultra-low-power energy harvesting nodes: environmental energy characterizations, energy harvesting adaptive algorithms, and testbed design and development. Personal

I am an avid runner and triathlete. I competed in the 2010 and 2011 New York City Triathlons (in 2011 I finished 9th in my age group -- top 4% of the finishers -- and qualified for the age group nationals), the 2011 Westchester Toughman 1/2 Ironman Triathlon, and the 2012 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon.
